CEO Markus Klimscheffskij
Today our CEO Markus leads the day-to-day operations of Grexel. These also include strategy implementation and development, personnel management, and sales negotiations. As he is passionate about sustainability, Markus also tries to find time for expert work with various stakeholders.
Markus has had a long history with Grexel. During his career he has also seen the world elsewhere but has now come back to his roots.
Initially Markus joined the Grexel team as a student. At the time he was keen to write his master’s thesis on a topic that intersects renewable energy markets, policies, and technologies.
“What I did not know at the time was that I would join a truly global, Finnish success story, which provides IT solutions for a cleaner tomorrow. Sustainability and Digitalization are the two buzzwords that label our every day in Grexel”, says Markus.
While Markus started as a master’s thesis worker, his potential was quickly noticed in the team.
“After having worked at Grexel for 5 months I was sent to present the results of my master’s thesis to Brussels in front of an audience of approximately 40 representatives from different European energy regulators and transmission system operators. I especially remember sitting in the airplane, taking long zips of water, thinking about the day ahead. On my way back I was so happy and relieved that I almost didn’t make it past security”, Markus laughs.
After finishing his thesis, he quickly started to work Europe-wide, interacting with energy regulators, system operators and market actors. In this role he led Grexel sales and international cooperation, as well as managed new projects.
“It was irreplaceable for my career to gain such diverse experience from a responsible position so early. The high amount of responsibility taught me confidence to manage and thrive in new situations.”
Markus used this experience to his advantage when he took a 5-year side-step in sustainable business consulting. In 2021, he returned to lead Grexel as our new CEO:
“I was happy to get this opportunity to return to my roots. Best at Grexel is the possibility to make an impact in the world for a cleaner tomorrow, whilst enjoying the interesting work and wonderful colleagues. Working at Grexel has certainly taught me much more about business and technology than concentrating on a single process or topic which might have been the case in a bigger company.”
