Matthew Hill is Grexel’s new Junior Operations Specialist
Matthew has joined the team as our new Junior Operations Specialist. He has an international background and has always been very engaged with sustainability.
“The role seemed to fit quite perfectly with my background, and the fact that the role is quite free and unrestricted allows me to really engage in a lot of areas and learn which types of tasks I am happiest doing and most skilled at. I’ve often thought of my skillset as very broad, but somewhat shallow. Grexel are the first true opportunity for me to gain true expertise in an industry very close to sustainability”, comments Matthew.
Matthew spends his first weeks familiarizing himself with the field, team and his tasks. During these weeks he will get a solid understanding of Guarantees of Origin, Grexel registries and their management.
“Coming into a quite complex business was slightly daunting as somebody with very little related work experience, but the whole team have been incredibly reassuring in helping me to learn and not expecting me to be an overnight expert! I already feel a sense of belonging to the team, and over time I’ll be more confident in my role and what is expected of me as I learn more about the company and industry”, says Matthew with a smile.
Grexel CEO Markus Klimscheffskij has been very impressed with Matthew‘s genuine interest and willingness to work in the Grexel team.
“Matthew is an outstanding addition to our team. He brings onboard very deep understanding of different sustainability themes and topical knowledge of for instance LCA and handprints. During his first days he has demonstrated genuine willingness to learn and understand our business and he is guaranteed to bring extra value to us and our customers in his future tasks”, Markus declares.
Matthew has an international study and work background. Originally from the UK, he fell in love with the Finnish nature and has lived in the Helsinki region for a few years now. In his spare time he tries to spend time outdoors, but can’t always resist spending a lazy day at home watching football.
A year from today he hopes to have broader experience than today, but he still expects to be involved with varied tasks across the Grexel operations.
“I think that would make the most of my versatility but also would give me a strong and broad experience where I can hopefully develop my career within Grexel”, he concludes.
