In the early days of Grexel Marika found herself in a crossroad. The founder of Grexel, Marko Lehtovaara, had asked her to join his company, but it was not the only interesting career option available for the newly graduated MSc in Engineering.
“In the end of the day I decided to try my wings in the renewable energy, and I have been very happy I did”, says Marika.
Her path has led her to work in diverse tasks. In the beginning of her career path at Grexel she was closer to the production team. Today she leads ISO 27 K internal audits within Grexel and works closely with Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) as the Information System Unit’s secretary and AIB superuser. In this diverse role she also answers for AIB statistics and technical audits.
“One of the highlights of my work is seeing the significance of standardization work, especially in change management. They create a shared base that makes it easy for very different actors to discuss and cooperate”, Marika explains.
During her long career at Grexel Marika has seen the Guarantees of Origin-system evolve. This has been a golden opportunity for her to develop as a professional of the field.
Before joining Grexel I had never even heard of Guarantees of Origin. Today I have participated in developing several certificate formats and their execution both in the registries as well as in the AIB Hub”, says Marika proudly.
According to Marika there is a place for standardization in the worlds for many topics. Nevertheless the best thing about the tomatoes of the own yard is that each of those is unique in their look and taste.
“Grexel makes it easy to combine work and personal life. Some years ago I moved to Galicia in Spain for family reasons. This was never an issue at Grexel, especially as the international team is already scattered around the world. It was mainly considered an asset to have more cultural competence and to have one more language spoken by a team member. It is extremely valuable to be able to pursue both professional and personal dreams. I am sure that is a significant reason behind my long commitment to Grexel”, explains Marika.
