Grexel to deliver the new Swedish registry for Guarantees of Origin

Grexel will deliver the new Swedish registry system for Guarantees of Origin (GO) and electricity certificates. The new system will replace the current Cesar in the beginning of 2023. Electricity certificates and guarantees of Origin for electricity, gas, hydrogen as well as heating and cooling will be managed in the new system.

Grexel has worked with the Swedish Energy Agency’s registry solution for almost 20 years. Until now Grexel has only managed certificates for electricity. These have included the support instrument elcert, the Swedish GO and the EECS GO. This new system will introduce Guarantees of Origin for the new energy carriers according to RED II: gas, heating and cooling, to the Swedish environment.

“Grexel is delighted to continue the well-functioning co-operation with the Swedish Energy Agency”, says Markus Klimscheffskij, the CEO of Grexel. “We are also happy and proud that SEA has chosen to extend the use of our services to the new energy carriers. With our long experience we are very glad to take on this broader service”.

The new registry system will operate in Grexel’s new registry solution, G-REX. G-REX is the next generation, cloud-native registry solution. It has been designed API first to allow easy integration. It can also be used on any device through standard internet browser.

“In the coming months the Grexel team will work hard and closely with the Swedish Energy Agency. Our common aim is to build a next generation registry platform which the Swedish Account Holders will be happy to use for many years to come.”, concludes Klimscheffskij.

Grexel is the leading energy certificate registry provider in Europe headquartered in Helsinki with an annual transaction volume of over one billion MWhs. The registries are used by over ten thousand active account holders in 15 countries. As part of EEX Group, Grexel also helps its customers to design new certification schemes and cope with changing requirements set by international legislation and standards.

The Swedish Energy Agency is leading society’s transition to a sustainable energy system. They contribute to the transition through research and analysis. They are also responsible for official energy statistics and operate the Swedish registry for Guarantees of Origin as the Issuing Body.
