CONEXUS CONNECTS GAS GUARANTEE OF ORIGIN REGISTRY TO THE AIB HUB

Grexel is pleased about Conexus Baltic Grid (Conexus), a gas guarantee of origin (GO) issuing body in Latvia, connecting its Guarantee of Origin (GO) registry to the AIB Hub. This marks a great milestone in Conexus efforts to enhance renewable gas – biomethane’s development in Latvia by creating reliable and internationally recognized gas GO system under European Energy Certificate System (EECS) framework.

AIB is the European Association of Issuing Bodies and it is an association which secures GO quality for electricity, gas and other energy carriers and gathers 28 countries from across Europe. In order to facilitate GO cross-border transfer among member GO registries, the AIB operates an inter-registry communications Hub called AIB Hub.

“Thanks to the close cooperation with Grexel and efforts by their professional team, we have one of the first gas-only GO registry connections to the AIB hub, which is a great success also for us. Being connected to the AIB hub in long run will ensure not only cost-efficient GO cross-border transfers, but will also facilitate biomethane and other green gas market developments by secure and transparent processes. We have developed needed IT, legal and physical infrastructure for biomethane GO issuance and transfers, therefore we are looking forward to biomethane market development in Latvia.” – explains Uldis Bariss, Chairman of the Board of Conexus.

Continues Markus Klimscheffskij, CEO of Grexel Systems Oy: “V80 message format launched by the AIB in 2023, introduces the possibility to transfer EECS GOs for gas internationally. Together with Conexus we were one of the first to undergo and pass the technical audit and test procedure with the HUB in V80 and in gas-GO format. As a result, Conexus is among the first countries to connect its gas GO registry with the HUB. We’re honoured to help Conexus be in the frontline of this progress, which ultimately aims at promoting the green energy transition in Europe, not only for electricity, but gaseous energy carriers as well. Thanks to the great cooperation and highly professional team at Conexus side”

Continues Liesbeth Switten, AIB Secretary General: “AIB congratulates Conexus for formally joining the EECS Gas Scheme as one of three frontrunners. By being connected to the AIB hub for both electricity and gas certificates, Latvia is a role model in Europe in terms of reliable energy disclosure. This achievement not only shows their commitment to advancing green energy but also reinforces the vital role of cross-border collaboration in driving our shared environmental goals.”

Creating new registry connections to the AIB hub highlights the growing importance of renewable energy and also provides the benefits of harmonized GO system approach in Europe. Conexus encourages other AIB Gas scheme group observers that have been appointed by their governments to be gas GO issuing body (currently 19 organisations), to also move forward with the process of connecting their registry to the AIB hub, in order to commonly develop effective gas GO transfers and market.
